· RTE.ie

Audio of the 911 call made after Cimmaron Thomas took her own life has been released by the PSNI.

The recording was published in the aftermath of a 26-year-old Co Armagh man being sentenced to a minimum of 20 years in prison for the manslaughter of the 12-year-old girl.

Alexander McCartney, from Lisummon Road outside Newry, pretended to be a teenage girl to target children across the world, a practice known as catfishing.

Cimmaron Thomas from West Virginia in the United States took her own life as a result of being blackmailed by him.

In the audio, only the operator's side of the conversation can be heard, with him providing instructions while help is dispatched to Cimmaron’s location.

"Is she okay? Are you next to her?" the operator asked.

"I need you to get in there and get some rags and put pressure on that wound, control the bleeding, and I need you to secure the firearm."

The operator can be heard repeating his instructions to the caller and asking what the 12-year-old had done.

"I need you to get her to get rags, put pressure on it, control the bleeding as much as you can. I need you to secure the firearm. Is it close by?"

He added: "And she’s breathing? Okay, you got rags and pressure on?

"Turn her to the side so she doesn’t aspirate, okay? Keep applying pressure, we’ve got help coming."
