Woman charged with murder of man in Carlow town

A woman in her 30s has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man in Carlow town earlier this week.

Sabrina Kehoe, with an address at St Mary's Park in Carlow town, was brought before a special sitting of Carlow District Court tonight.

She was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning following the fatal assault of Darren Quigley outside a house on Market View in the New Oak Estate.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 11.40pm on Monday night, where they discovered the father of two suffering from serious injuries and unresponsive.

He had been stabbed four times.

The 30-year-old was treated at the scene before being taken to St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny - where the he was later pronounced dead.

Detective Garda Philip O'Sullivan from Carlow Garda Station told the court Ms Kehoe made no made reply after she was charged and cautioned.

A 23-year-old man also appeared in court charged in connection with the incident.

Conor O’Brien, with an address at Oakley Park in Carlow town, is accused of bringing weapons to a dispute.

Detective Garda Derek McEvoy from Carlow Garda Station told the court Mr O'Brien made no made reply after he was charged and cautioned.

Judge Geraldine Carthy remanded Ms Kehoe in custody to the Dóchas Centre in Dublin to appear before Carlow District Court again on Friday at 10.30am via video link.

She granted an application for free legal aid and she also acceded to a request from defence solicitor Alexander Rafter that his client receives any medical attention that is deemed necessary.

Defence counsel Eamonn O’Moore applied for bail for Mr O’Brien, to which gardaí objected.

Judge Carthy rejected the application and remanded Mr O'Brien custody to Cloverhill Prison in Dublin to appear before Carlow District Court again on Friday at 10.30am via video link.
