Gardaí are attempting to trace a group of men in a stolen car who chased and rammed a young Deliveroo driver overnight leading him to suffer serious injuries to his legs.

The incident took place at around midnight.

HSE advanced paramedics and several units of the Cork City Fire Brigade attended the scene in Beaumont after receiving reports that the men had chased and rammed the 23-year-old Deliveroo driver.

The Brazilian man was pursued by the group from Mahon to Beaumont in the southside of the city.

They rammed into the man at Woodvale Road in Beaumont before fleeing the scene. The Deliveroo driver was travelling on a Honda 125 motorbike.

Locals who heard the impact of the ramming raised the alarm.

They found the man lying trapped under his bike. He had sustained a serious compound fracture to one of his legs.

The man was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

The damaged bike was removed from the scene and is due to be forensically examined.

The area where the ramming occurred will also be technically examined.

It is believed the man informed gardaí that he had had a interaction with the persons in the stolen car in the Mahon area, leading them to follow him to Beaumont in a "road rage" type of incident.

The stolen car was a Skoda Kodiaq, which was robbed from a property in Courtbrack near Blarney in Co Cork ten days ago.

An alert was put out in connection with the group who subsequently rammed a garda car at 2am this morning on the Old Mallow Road in Cork's northside.

Two gardaí received minor injuries in the incident.

It is understood they subsequently headed in the direction of north Cork.

Gardaí have asked anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the areas of Mahon, Beaumont and Old Mallow Road in Cork overnight to call Anglesea St Garda Station on 021-4522000.
