A 22-year-old woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 44-year-old man who suffered a fatal stab wound in Co Kerry last May.

Abigail Lynch, of 47 Woodview Place, Tarbert in Co Kerry appeared before a sitting of Listowel District Court where she was charged with the murder of Gerard 'Ger' Kennelly at Knockanure near Listowel in Co Kerry on 27 May last.

Det. Sgt. Tommy Griffin of Listowel Garda Station gave evidence of arresting Ms Lynch and charging her at 5.09pm yesterday evening. She made no reply after caution.

An application from the State to remand her in custody was granted by Judge David Waters who also granted an application for free legal aid.

Judge Waters said given the charge he was not in a position to deal with a bail application.

The accused's solicitor Padraig O'Connell said he would be making an application to the High Court for bail.

Judge Waters remanded Ms Lynch in custody to appear again before the district court in Tralee on 6 November next.

He also directed that she receives any medical attention needed.

She is the second person to be charged in connection with Mr Kennelly's death.
