Six men and one juvenile have been remanded in custody charged in connection with a violent attack on a woman at an apartment in Dublin's north inner city on Thursday.

Twenty-year-old Sean Conroy from Silloge Road in Ballymun, Dublin, Braxton Rice also aged 20, of Henrietta House in Dublin 1, Kian Walsh, aged 21 from Constitution Hill in Dublin 7, 54-year-old Mark McMahon and 33-year-old Mark Keogh both from Henrietta House in Dublin 1 and 20-year-old Jayven Talbot from Constitution Hill in Dublin 7 all appeared at the Dublin District Court.

The accused men are all charged with assault causing harm and false imprisonment after being arrested on Thursday evening.

Judge Patricia McNamara heard how members of An Garda Síochana arrived at an apartment in Henrietta House on Dublin’s Bolton Street to target a drugs gang around 7pm last Thursday.

Arresting officers described how they came across a "chaotic incident" in the apartment where they found a woman with severe injuries.

They said she had been severely beaten, scalded, stabbed and her hair had been pulled out.

She remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Gardaí told the judge there were a number of weapons found in the apartment.

A hammer, a hatchet, blades and scissors were all found along with a deodorant can and lighter which officers said was made into a makeshift blowtorch.

Mark McMahon and Mark Keogh made no application for bail and they will appear again at Cloverhill District Court next week.

Sean Conroy, Braxton Rice, Kian Walsh and Jayven Talbot all applied for bail but it was refused after Gardaí told the court about the serious nature of the assault.

The six men will all appear in court again next week.

A juvenile was remanded to Oberstown to appear in the Children’s Court on Monday for a bail application.

All seven applied for and received legal aid.

An eighth man remains in Garda custody. Investigations are ongoing.
