Man, 30s, dies in Co Cork road crash

A man in his 30s has died in a road crash in Co Cork.

The man, who was travelling alone, died after his car is believed to have hit a ditch and crashed into a river on the R571 at Eyeries in west Cork.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

The R571 is closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who was travelling in the Eyeries area between 1am and 6am and who may have video footage (including dash cam) to contact Bantry Garda Station on 27 20860, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

The man's death brings to 144 the number of people killed on Irish roads so far this year.
