Toronto Standouts ‘Faithless,’ ‘The Listeners’ Headline Fremantle Package Deal With Spanish Streamer Filmin – Global Bulletin

DRAMA DEAL

Fremantle has closed a package deal with Spanish streamer Filmin for a slate of premium drama titles, including Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of Ingmar Berman’s “Faithless” and BAFTA-winning actress Rebecca Hall’s thriller “The Listeners,” both of which recently screened in competition at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Also included in the deal are Victor Levin’s Golden Globe-nominated “Alice & Jack,” starring Domhnall Gleeson and Adrea Riseborough; Series Mania best script winner “Herrhausen – The Banker and the Bomb”; and Series Mania audience award winner “Little Bird.”

BERLIN BONANZA

The Berlinale‘s World Cinema Fund (WCF) is set to present its sixth Berlinale Spotlight at the Around the World in 14 Films festival in Berlin. The event, running from Nov. 29 to Dec. 7, will feature five WCF-supported films from emerging markets.

On Dec. 1, the spotlight will showcase four films, with a fifth screening separately during the festival. The lineup includes Berlinale 2024 Silver Bear winner “Pepe” by Nelson Carlos De Los Santos Arias (Dominican Republic), “Việt and Nam” by Minh Quý Trương (Vietnam), “The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos” by The Agbajowo Collective (Nigeria), “The Village Next to Paradise” by Mo Harawe (Somalia), and “Boomerang” by Shahab Fotouhi (Iran).

CHINA CADENCE

Universal Music Greater China (UMGC) has inked a deal with Chinese streaming platform iQIYI to distribute music from contestants on “The Rap of China 2024” globally. The agreement grants UMGC exclusive distribution rights for new releases from the show’s signed contestants.

UMGC will provide comprehensive support to the artists, including A&R, management, marketing, and merchandise development. The top three finalists will be offered visits to UMG’s international labels and studios, aiming to expand their artistic reach and encourage collaborations.

“The Rap of China,” which debuted in 2018, has become a significant cultural influence in China, helping launch several rap artists’ careers. The latest season, which ran from May to July, featured contestants including A A., ALAMEI, Danny K, God Øne, Oliver Jiang, and others. Their upcoming releases will be distributed worldwide under the UMG umbrella.
