Lin-Manuel Miranda Returning to Broadway in ‘All In: Comedy About Love’

Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creative mind behind “Hamilton” and “In the Heights,” is returning to Broadway in “All In: Comedy About Love.” The play, penned by former “Saturday Night Live” writer Simon Rich, will feature a rotating cast of stars, including Jimmy Fallon, Andrew Rannells, Aidy Bryant and Tim Meadows.

Miranda will take over for John Mulaney, who will lead the cast of Fred Armisen, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Richard Kind, for the show’s first five weeks on Broadway. Mulaney will star in “All In” at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre from Dec. 11 through Jan. 12. Miranda will begin performances on Jan. 14 through Feb. 16.

The show features four actors at a time. Full company includes Armisen, who will be in the cast from Dec. 11 through Jan. 12; Goldsberry from Dec. 11 through 30; Kind from Dec. 11 through Jan. 12; Chloe Fineman will be in the cast from Jan. 2 through Jan. 2; Bryant from Jan. 14 through Feb. 2; Rannells from Jan. 14 through 26; Sam Richardson from Jan. 14 through Feb. 2; Fallon from Jan. 28 through Feb. 2; David Cross from Feb. 4 through 9; Meadows from Feb. 4 through 16 and Hank Azaria from Feb. 11 through 16.

“All In: Comedy About Love” is based on Rich’s New Yorker short stories and described as a collection of “hilarious stories about dating, heartbreak, marriage and that sort of thing.” According to the official release, “Sometimes they will play pirates, sometimes they will play dogs, and there’s one where we make them talk in British accents. But even though the show’s kind of all over the place, it’s meant to tell one simple story: that the most important part of life is who we share it with. We hope everybody will relate to it, even if it was their date’s idea to come and they are starting out from a place of quiet resentment.”

Musical duo Abigail and Shaun Bengson will be performing songs live on stage from the Magnetic Fields (composer, Stephin Merritt), including from the album “69 Love Songs.” New Yorker cartoonist Emily Flake will be creating the illustrations for the production. “Saturday Night Live” creator Lorne Michaels is producing “All In” with Seaview and New Yorker Studios.
