In Lawas, all 10 on board MPV including three children rescued after vehicle plunges into river

MIRI (Oct 18): All 10 persons travelling in a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) that plunged into the river at Kampung Awat Awat in Lawas today have been brought to safety.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said all the victims, three of whom were children, managed to escape or were rescued by passers-by in the incident the occurred in Sundar Sub-District.

In a statement, Bomba said the Lawas fire station received a call at 1.15pm, reporting that a vehicle had plunged into the river.

”Six of the victims managed to save themselves while three children, who were trapped in the vehicle, were extricated by members of the public and sent to the Sundar Health Clinic in Lawas,” Bomba said.

It is understood that the youngest victim is three years old.

Medical personnel responding to the emergency call performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on two of the young victims at the scene prior to moving them to the clinic.

Both were still dressed in their school uniforms.

As of the time of writing, the condition of the victims and cause of the accident had yet to be determined.
