KUCHING (Oct 18): The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a missing 94-year-old man in Saratok, involving rescue personnel and local villagers, continued this morning.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said Sipin Landok was reported missing after failing to return home from a rubber plantation near Rumah Frederick Juan, Kumpai, Krian yesterday.

A team of five personnel from Saratok fire station was despatched to the scene after a distress call was received around 6.40pm.

“Upon arrival, the family informed that the missing person had left the house to head towards a rubber plantation, approximately 500 metres from the longhouse, and had not returned.

“The elderly man was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and shorts. Initial searches by local residents had already been conducted in the nearby area,” Bomba said in a statement.

Firefighters and longhouse folk combed a 1km radius area from where Sipin was last seen using a base line technique.

However, the operation was called off for the night at 9.55pm after no clues of Sipin’s whereabouts were found.
