Man in Padawan fined RM2,400 for drug abuse
by Desiree David · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Oct 31): The Magistrates’ Court here fined a 29-year-old man RM2,400 in default five months’ in prison for abusing amphetamine and methamphetamine last year.
Mohd Hadzha Khan Asraf Khan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan to a charge under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
The Section carries a jail sentence of up to two years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, and immediate supervision for a period not exceeding three years.
The court also ordered Mohd Hadzha to undergo supervision for two years.
He committed the offence at the Padawan District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department around 6pm on Oct 24, 2023.
Mohd Hadzha tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, which are listed in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Insp Nur Ain Wong prosecuted the case while Mohd Hadzha was unrepresented by legal counsel.
