Kuching man fined RM4,000 for retaining stolen 50-inch TV
by Desiree David · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Nov 11): The Magistrates’ Court here today fined a 27-year-old man RM4,000 in default 10 months in jail for dishonestly retaining a stolen 50-inch television.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan convicted Khaldum Abdullah on his own guilty plea to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
The Section carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
Based on the facts of the case, on Nov 6 at 7.35am, the television owner had called his nephew after discovering a break-in at his Taman Stutong Jaya house.
The nephew immediately visited the uncle’s house and discovered that a 50-inch television estimated at RM1,500 was missing.
Acting on the nephew’s report, police arrested Khaldum on the same day in Kampung Tabuan Melayu.
The investigation found that Khaldum and his accomplice, who is still at large, had taken possession of the item and sold it to another individual for RM290.
The proceeds from the sale were split equally between Khaldum and his accomplice, who has since fled.
Khaldum was unrepresented by legal counsel.
