Man caught at Matang flat with meth worth RM332,800, enough to supply 52,000 users

KUCHING (Nov 13): Police arrested a man after he was found with methamphetamine worth RM332,800 at a Jalan Matang flat here on Monday.

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) personnel raided the flat following intelligence and information gathered.

He said the 57-year-old man had previously been detained under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952.

“A raid led to the discovery of around 10,400 grammes of methamphetamine, estimated to be worth RM332,800, which is believed to be enough to supply 52,000 drug users.

“All the drugs were seized, and the suspect has been remanded for seven days for further investigation,” Mancha said in a statement today.

He said a high-powered motorcycle, estimated to be worth RM50,000, was seized.

“An initial urine test also revealed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the DDA 1952 for drug trafficking.

The Section carries the death penalty or life imprisonment with a minimum 12 strokes of the rotan upon conviction.

For this year up until Nov 10, the NCID Sarawak has made 9,374 drug-related arrests, including 465 for suspected dealing or trafficking.

“A variety of drugs valued at nearly RM39 million have been seized, along with the confiscation of assets worth RM3.97 million, in the effort to dismantle drug syndicates,” Mancha stated.

He urged the public to provide information on drug-related activities through the NCID hotline on 012-2087222.
