Kuching police slam driver of car carrying four passengers on roof with summons

KUCHING (Oct 8): The police have issued a summons to a driver of the car after a video was found showing four passengers sitting on top of the car’s roof.

In a statement today, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department said the driver voluntarily presented himself at the Padawan district police headquarters at 9.30pm on Monday.

“The driver presented himself to assist in the investigation and further action. Based on investigations, the driver was found to have committed an offence under Road Transport Act 1987 for failing to ensure the safety of passengers and has been issued a summons,” it said.

The video, which went viral on social media since Oct 4, showed the car carrying four passengers sitting on the car’s roof and caused concern among other road users.

Police found the video had been recorded at Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa and successfully identified the driver and all the passengers involved.
