KUCHING (Oct 6): A 25-year-old man landed himself in hot water with the police for filing a false robbery report to cover up losing RM850 belonging to his wife.

Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Jaimi Husin said the man lodged the report at 8.22pm on Saturday, claiming two men robbed him while he was delivering parcels at Kampung Tanjung Bundong.

“Based on the report, he claimed two men on separate motorcycles robbed him and caused injuries to his arm with a sharp weapon, believed to be a ‘kerambit’ (curved blade).

“He claimed the loss of RM850, three parcels belonging to customers, and a mobile phone,” said Jaimi in a statement today.

However, he said upon further investigation and interrogation, it was found that the alleged crime did not happen.

“The suspect admitted to making a false police report because he had lost his wife’s money amounting to RM850 after falling asleep at a parking lot in Bandar Riyal, Kota Samarahan.

“He lodged the false report to avoid being scolded by his wife,” he said.

Jaimi said the case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum fine of RM2,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, upon conviction.
