One dead, three hurt after car plunged into ravine near Bintulu Airport

BINTULU (Nov 3): A car plunged into a ravine at Jalan Tatau-Bintulu near the airport here early today, leaving one woman dead and three others injured.

According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bintulu Zone chief Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad, the woman was identified as Talie Ganin.

“Another woman, aged 44, and a man, 50, sustained head injuries, while a 14-year-old girl had fractures in both legs,” he said in a statement.

Wan Kamarudin said Bomba received a distress call at 2.33am and immediately after that, dispatched 11 firefighters to the scene.

“The four occupants were already taken out of the car by passers-by when the firefighters arrived.

“All victims were then taken to a safer site, where the firefighters provided initial treatment and stabilised them.

“However, one of the women was pronounced dead by the paramedics, who arrived later.

“All four were taken to the hospital on board an ambulance, and personal belongings were handed over to the police for further action,” said the Bomba Bintulu chief.

The operation ended at 4.04am.
