by COLlive Editor · COLliveAmsterdam erupted in violence Thursday night as Israeli fans supporting the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team were assaulted following the team’s match against Ajax.
Hundreds of attackers reportedly targeted Israelis across the city in what appears to be a coordinated attack, resulting in multiple injuries. Witnesses described an organized ambush waiting for fans outside the stadium, where stabbings, car rammings, and beatings occurred across several streets.
Footage also shows masked individuals attempting to break into hotels where Israeli fans were reportedly staying. Local media reported several hotspots of confrontations throughout Amsterdam, with police arriving on the scene only after some delay, attempting to control the chaos.
One Maccabi Tel Aviv fan, a 30-year-old who had recently completed four months of military reserve duty in Gaza, recounted the terror: “What I went through here is no less frightening than Gaza. I was run over and someone pulled a knife on me. I’m slightly injured, but I’ll only seek treatment in Israel. We were ambushed. I’m in shock. I saw kids being hit—it was everywhere. The police are nowhere to be found; it’s total chaos. This was premeditated. We feel abandoned.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is now in direct contact with officials in Amsterdam and is expected to speak with the Dutch Prime Minister shortly, YWN reported.
The Dutch police report that “30 protesters, including Iranians and Turks, have been arrested so far.”
Israel’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Modi Ephraim, is leading efforts on behalf of the state to protect Israeli citizens targeted in the Amsterdam violence. Ephraim has informed Israeli authorities that 600 Dutch police officers have been deployed to hotels across Amsterdam to ensure the safety of Israeli fans.
The situation remains ongoing, though authorities indicate it is now under control.
Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett released the following video and tweet:
“At this moment Jews are being attacked in multiple locations in Amsterdam. I call upon the Dutch authorities to act NOW.
Gideon Sa’ar – Israel’s Foreign Minister, released the following statement: “We are working with the authorities in the Netherlands about the serious incidents happing there. Any Israeli or Jew who is currently in distress or has information and location about a violent event that is currently taking place – please contact the situation room: 0097225303155.
