Arsenal get major sign to complete £125m dream transfer Mikel Arteta will love

Florian Wirtz continues to shine in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen and could switch clubs in the summer transfer window of 2025

Will Florian Wirtz be the next blockbuster signing at the Emirates Stadium? The Gunners have made some big-money signings in the last few transfer windows.

Declan Rice was the biggest, arriving at the club from West Ham for a cool £105million. Kai Havertz cost £65million, while Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino this year cost a combined £73million.

Wirtz has been on a number of clubs' radars for some time now. The young German star rose to prominence in Bayer Leverkusen's incredible unbeaten Bundesliga season last year, scoring 18 goals and providing 20 assists in 49 matches. He already has six goals and one assist in ten matches this campaign.

Arsenal have been linked with signing the 21-year-old in the past, with a report from SportBILD - as relayed by Sport Witness - recently suggesting the Gunners were "fully committed" to the idea of signing him.

TNT Sports pundit Owen Hargreaves waxed lyrical about the youngster last season. He said: "I'm sure Mikel Arteta would love him at Arsenal."

And the door has been opened for interested clubs to make their move. Manchester City have also been named as suitors for his signature.

Sky in Germany report that the current plan is for Wirtz to leave Leverkusen in 2025. That means there could be a huge battle to sign him between clubs in Germany, England and Spain.

The setback for Arsenal will be that Sky in Germany also report that Wirtz "wants to join Bayern Munich" before moving aborad later in his career.

Wirtz is under contract until 2027 and will fetch a pretty penny next summer, with Leverkusen thought to be looknig for a fee in the region of £125million to let him go.
