Arsenal given huge Martin Odegaard injury update as Edu offered stunning Paul Pogba proposal

by · football.london

Arsenal will be determined to return to winning ways when they face Liverpool. Mikel Arteta will lock horns with Arne Slot at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, knowing a win could prove decisive in the Premier League title race.

Last weekend, the Gunners suffered defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium while the Reds clambered to victory against Chelsea at Anfield. Arsenal and Liverpool both enjoyed wins in the Champions League during the week.

The north Londoners' extra day of rest could be game-changing, with Bukayo Saka in a race against time to return from injury. So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up the latest Arsenal news and transfer gossip.

Norway boss provides Odegaard

Speaking to Norwegian news outlet Verdens Gang, Stale Solbakken has provided a positive injury update on Martin Odegaard. The 25-year-old midfielder suffered an ankle injury while on international duty in September.

The Norway boss said: "Everything indicates that things are going according to plan. Then it is about the last steps when you are going to train with opponents and at team training. It depends on how he responds to it, but we have a justified hope that he is ready [to play next month].

"I've spoken to him quite regularly. Now that it's starting to progress, it's easier, but it's not fun to be injured. At the same time, he has been very little injured, so it is probably a training matter for him."

football.london says: "Arsenal have greatly missed Martin Odegaard. It's a shame that the Gunners will be without their skipper for the Liverpool clash."

Sagna urges Arsenal to sign Pogba

Bacary Sagna has urged Arsenal to sign Paul Pogba following the conclusion of his doping ban in the new year. The former Manchester United midfielder will be able to return to first-team training in January, before being eligible to play in competitive matches from March.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Sagna said: "It would be great – he has experience; he loves to play with young players around him – that is when he is most efficient. At the 2018 World Cup, that was when he was most efficient – he had friends around him.

"Arsenal have a young, fresh team, and I see him performing in an Arsenal shirt. He will get love from their fans. Now, he can start from scratch again. He's had time away from football, and he’ll be back with a desire to get back into a good space and play football again."

football.london says: "While I'd love to see Paul Pogba return to the Premier League, he's been out of action for a long time so I doubt he'd live up to expectations."

Liverpool injury problem revealed

According to The Athletic, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been playing with some discomfort since returning from England duty earlier this month. The report states that the Liverpool defender has been suffering from a muscle issue which he picked up following the Nations League clashes against Greece and Finland.

Alexander-Arnold didn't complete the full 90 minutes against Chelsea on Sunday or RB Leipzig on Wednesday, managing 81 minutes and 75 minutes respectively. In fact, he's been substituted on five previous occasions already this season, with Arne Slot keen to rest him when needed to give Conor Bradley minutes.

football.london says: "If Trent Alexander-Arnold has managed to play through the pain so far, then I doubt it's something serious enough to sideline him for the Arsenal clash. He could cause havoc this weekend."
