Arsenal handed huge Alexander Isak transfer boost as Newcastle contract demand revealed

by · football.london

Arsenal have been offered a boost to their hopes of signing Alexander Isak ahead of the January transfer window. The 25-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, in the past, with Mikel Arteta always exploring ways to bolster his frontline.

Isak, who sees his contract at St. James' Park expire in June 2028, has featured six times in the Premier League this season, scoring one goal and providing an assist. Playing a hugely-important role in Eddie Howe's side, the Sweden international has helped the Magpies climb up to ninth in the table.

In fact, before he was side-lined with a toe injury, Isak had fired Newcastle up to fifth. But, since then, Newcastle have fallen out of the European qualification spots. Despite this, the Swede, 25, remains one of the most coveted frontmen in Europe.

According to The Daily Mail, if the Magpies don't qualify for the Champions League for next season then Isak will seek a move, with Arsenal ready to pounce. The report states that there are doubts in his camp over the speed of the project at St. James' Park.

It's said that there were preliminary discussions towards the end of last season, but the striker and his entourage were reluctant to commit. The Daily Mail adds that Arsenal would 'likely' be prepared to break the British transfer record on Isak.

Back in May, Howe revealed that he's 'desperate' to hold on to his talisman and Bruno Guimaraes. The Newcastle manager said: "They are suited to how we play. They are two outstanding players.

"They can, and have, made a difference in numerous games for us, but it is always about the team for me - how it functions and how they give a platform for those two to play."

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen in June, Isak commented on his future. He said: "I'm enjoying myself very, very much in Newcastle. I just had the best season of my career. That should not be underestimated.

"I love everything really about the club, the fans, the city. I actually have no thoughts of a move, or anything like that. I enjoy myself fantastically well and am very happy with my life."
