Mohamed Salah 'eyed by PSG' in major transfer move after Arsenal legend Thierry Henry criticism

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made a huge offer to Mohamed Salah to try and persuade him to join the club on a free transfer from Liverpool at the end of the season

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made a move for Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, whose contract is due to expire in the summer.

The Egyptian forward will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January. It was previously speculated that Saudi Arabian clubs would be the first to approach the star player. Last season, Al-Ittihad, a Saudi club, had a £150million bid for Salah turned down by Liverpool.

However, Arsenal's title rivals have yet to begin discussions with their key attacker about a new contract to replace the one ending this season. This situation has paved the way for a potential high-profile transfer to PSG, who are still reeling from their recent loss to the Gunners.

In recent years, the French team has shifted away from their Galacticos transfer strategy, but the prospect of signing Salah might be too enticing to resist.

According to The Sun, PSG are prepared to offer the 32-year-old a three-year contract to join them at Parc des Princes, with a salary that would surpass what Liverpool can offer. Salah is reportedly eager to continue playing at the highest level, viewing a move to Saudi Arabia as a downgrade.

The Qatari owners of PSG are under pressure to secure a superstar signing following Kylian Mbappe's departure. Their defeat to Arsenal has stirred up more discontent, with Thierry Henry criticising their lack of a leading superstar.

He told CBS Sports: "They don't have that match-winner, that game-winner, that they had in the past. Yes, the team is a bit more well-balanced, but in and around the box, we didn't see much. You don't obviously have Mbappe. They had the ball, a lot of possession but that is about it. That wasn't enough."

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta made no secret of his admiration for Mohamed Salah and PSG's current form has not escaped his keen eye as he mentioned to CBS Sports: "They don't have that match-winner, that game-winner, that they had in the past. Yes, the team is a bit more well-balanced, but in and around the box, we didn't see much. You don't obviously have Mbappe. They had the ball, a lot of possession but that is about it. That wasn't enough."

PSG's intent to boost their quest for Champions League glory sees them setting sights on Salah, who has been nothing short of sensational this season, hitting the net five times across nine outings.

Salah further cemented his mark at Liverpool with his most recent goal against Bologna in their Champions League clash on Wednesday, marking his fifth successive European Cup score at Anfield and making him the first in the club's history to achieve such a feat. A feat that earned glowing commendations from manager Arne Slot.

He said: "What can I say about Mo? What you saw today is what you get. If you bring him often enough in positions like this, he can score a goal. He had a great assist as well. I think before Wolves, Mo played three games without scoring a goal," he disclosed.

Commenting on the natural goal-scoring nature of elite players, Slot added: "In football, it can happen that sometimes in three games you score one or you don't score. But these players, like Mo, like Darwin, like all the others, they will always score their goals if you just keep playing them the thing is, I can't play them all!

"But it's good to have them and they will always score their goals. Mo has done really well today and I am happy with what he does at the moment. I am not looking forward to next season as long as we have six group games to play and hopefully many others to come afterwards."
