Fernandez returns, Palmer rested, new Sancho role - Predicted Chelsea line-up for Newcastle

Bobby Vincent shares his Chelsea predicted line-up for this evening's Carabao Cup round of 16 tie at Newcastle United as the Blues look to record back-to-back wins against the Magpies

Enzo Maresca is expected to make plenty of changes to his side this evening as Chelsea take on Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup round of 16.

The Blues face the tough challenge of winning at St. James' Park just four days after the west Londoners beat the Magpies at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. This coming game, though, is set to be very different with both managers expected to make changes to their side.

Maresca has typically made plenty of alterations to the team sheet for the cup competitions this season as he looks to give minutes to as many players as he can in his substantial squad. Will he do the same this time, with Newcastle a difficult challenge for his so-called 'B team'?

With that being said, Bobby Vincent does his best at predicting what exactly Maresca will do in terms of personnel on Tyneside...

GK: Filip Jorgensen

So far this season, Jorgensen has been Maresca's go-to man in goal for cup competitions. After Robert Sanchez's disappointing performance at the weekend, it is a good chance for Jorgensen to apply some pressure on Chelsea's No.1 shot-stopper.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

RB: Axel Disasi

Disasi was used at right-back last week in the Conference League victory over Panathinaikos. Reece James is set to be rested and Malo Gusto, too, may well be given a game out of the side; paving the way for Disasi.(Image: Stefanos Kyriazis/NurPhoto)

CB: Tosin Adarabioyo

Tosin was not used last week at Panathinaikos but that was perhaps down to his involvement in the Liverpool game a few days before. The 26-year-old defender could come back into the right-hand side of the centre-back pairing at St. James' Park.(Image: Robin Jones)

CB: Benoit Badiashile

Badiashile did play in Greece last week but was dropped back to the bench for the win against Newcastle on Sunday. The Frenchman could partner Tosin at St. James', where he will need to be at his absolute best to keep the Magpies out this evening.(Image: Paul Ellis/AFP)

LB: Marc Cucurella

Cucurella was named on the bench for Sunday's game but could return to the XI on Tyneside. The Spaniard's experience could come in crucial for a game like this.(Image: Chloe Knott - Danehouse)

CM: Enzo Fernandez

Fernandez was brought on as a second-half substitute in the win against the Magpies after starting a few days before in Athens. However, Maresca is expected to bring the Argentine back into the side tonight - and the midfielder could wear the armband with James set to be rested.(Image: Robin Jones)

CM: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall

There was no space in the 20-man squad for Dewsbury-Hall over the weekend. He could, however, return to the squad - and to the side - for tonight's match in the north east, with cup competitions seemingly his only chance at minutes at this moment in time.(Image: Dimitris Kapantais/SOOC)

RW: Jadon Sancho

A new role for Sancho? The 24-year-old, who has played on the left thus far under Maresca, has not been involved in the last two matches for the Blues. With Pedro Neto playing the last two matches and that he does not seem to like using Noni Madueke in the cup, it could be a chance for Sancho to show what he can do from the right-hand side.(Image: Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images)

CAM: Joao Felix

Two goals against Panathinaikos and then no minutes against Newcastle a few days later? That, unfortunately for Felix, is the harsh and brutal reality at Chelsea right now due to their wealth in attacking options. Felix, though, is expected to come back into the XI for tonight's cup tie.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)

LW: Mykhailo Mudryk

Mudryk would have been frustrated he did not start at the weekend after a really impressive display in Athens. The Ukraine international will be hoping to continue the form he displayed in Greece with Maresca expected to hand him another opportunity to impress tonight.(Image: Milos Bicanski)

ST: Christopher Nkunku

Nicolas Jackson is the Premier League striker, and Nkunku plays the cup matches. That is how it appears to be at this moment in time - and that is not expected to change for tonight's match either.(Image: Darren Walsh/Chelsea FC)
