Frank Lampard among the favourites to land shock new job as ex-Chelsea boss awaits fresh challenge

by · football.london

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has emerged as the early favourite to become the new manager at Coventry City.

The Sky Blues parted company with Mark Robins on Thursday morning following the club's defeat to Derby County in the Championship.

Robins had been in charge at Coventry for more than seven years and was the Championship's longest-serving manager before his departure.

It was just last season that Robins guided Coventry to the FA Cup semi-final, which resulted in a penalty shootout defeat against Manchester United, a little under 12 months on from the Sky Blues Championship play-off final defeat to Luton Town in the previous campaign.

As is often the case when a managerial vacancy opens up, odds emerge of the latest favourites to take on the job.

BonusCodeBets have provided the odds for the candidates to be the next Coventry manager, and Lampard has emerged as the early favourite.

Lampard has been listed with 2/1 odds, which is the favourite ahead of England interim manager Lee Carsley, who has 5/2 odds.

Reading boss Ruben Selles is third in the betting with 3/1 odds, while Oxford United manager Des Buckingham has been given the same chance of getting the Coventry job.

Lampard has been out of managerial work ever since his interim spell as Chelsea boss in the second half of the 2022/23 season, where he replaced Thomas Tuchel. Before then, the former Blues manager was in charge of Everton for 12 months and has also managed Derby in his career, as well as enjoying an 18-month stint at Stamford Bridge.

Since leaving his role as Chelsea's interim manager, where he was subsequently replaced by Mauricio Pochettino, Lampard has been working with several TV broadcasters as a pundit and has recently been spotted covering Champions League games for Amazon Prime and Premier League fixtures for Sky Sports.
