Jamie Theakston is using a speech therapist following his shocking cancer diagnosis, Amanda Holden has revealed.

The Heart Breakfast host, 53, was diagnosed with stage one laryngeal cancer last month, and announced that the prognosis remained "very positive." To top it all off, Jamie Theakston was also hopeful to reprise his hosting duties in October. However, this Monday (October 7, 2024), the Britain's Got Talent judge may need more time to himself.

Speaking to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Amanda told the presenters Jamie was using a speech therapist following his diagnosis in a bid to "get his voice back" and could be back on air in November, 2024.

Amanda was on the breakfast programme ahead of her Big Ride To Work challenge, during which she will cycle from her mother's house in Cornwall to the Heart Studios in London in just over five days.

During the chat on the morning show, Amanda reassured Susanna, Ed and viewers at home as she said: "The good news is with Jamie is that it was stage one, and he’s going to be absolutely fine." She added: "I think the biggest challenge he faces now is with a voice and a speech therapist to get his voice back." If all goes well, as Amanda remains hopeful for her co-star, Jamie Theakston could be back in November, "or for Christmas."

This comes after Jamie took to Instagram on September 17, to share his diagnosis with his 92.7k followers online. At the time, Jamie was recovering from an operation to remove a lesion from his vocal chords - this was later identified as stage one laryngeal cancer. He was told by doctors to "give his voice a rest", which led him to take a break from his presenting role on Heart FM and he has since taken a step back from the spotlight.

Earlier in October, however, Jamie Theakston returned to social media as he showed support to the late Kris Hallenga, ahead of a posthumous BBC documentary titled Living Every Second, which follows her life after her own cancer diagnosis. She passed away from stage four breast cancer last year at the age of 38 years old.

Jamie had been experiencing difficulties with his voice on air, ahead of his diagnosis, as listeners spotted the first symptoms of laryngeal cancer. According to the NHS, these include a change in one's voice, pain when swallowing, a lump or swelling in the neck or a long-lasting cough. A persistent sore throat or earache can also be signs of laryngeal cancer, which affects the larynx.
