Chelsea legend makes Jadon Sancho feelings clear with comment that speak volumes

Joe Cole believes on-loan Manchester United winger could be a missing ingredient for the Blues but he has to start delivering on a consistent basis in the Premier League

Joe Cole has told Jadon Sancho it’s time for him to start delivering with Chelsea.

The England international is on a season-long loan from Manchester United in a move that will become permanent next summer and is looking to make his mark for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Having been exiled to Borussia Dortmund by Reds boss Erik ten Hag last season, Sancho was somewhat ruthlessly cast aside and ushered out the Old Trafford exit on transfer deadline day, with the United hierarchy ultimately backing Ten Hag's decision to not work with the winger who had cost them £73million.

He has impressed off the bench for Chelsea since arriving and started in the 3-0 win over West Ham at the weekend. And Cole - who made 183 appearances for the London club - insists: “There’s a quality player in Jadon Sancho.

“But he needs to start showing it and maybe he is the one to step up on the left wing for Chelsea.

"When he came off the bench against Bournemouth, I thought he handled the ball so well and he looked class, but what he needs is someone to put their arm around him and he needs to be somewhere where he’s loved, and I hope that can be Chelsea.”

It would make sense if the 24 year-old hit it off at Stamford Bridge. In an interview with Paddy Power, Cole, 42, explained: “He was a Chelsea supporter as a child, he used to come and watch at Stamford Bridge, so now that he’s back home in South-West London, you’re hoping that this will factor in for him because he needs to settle in England.

“Against Bournemouth, there were some touches on the ball, and he just showed his class, so I’m hoping he can continue that and kick on as a Chelsea player this season.”
