Blue Bloods will sadly be coming to an end after its 14th season later this year, leaving millions of fans distraught over its cancellation.

Tom Selleck will soon host his final family dinner as Frank Reagan now the second half of season 14 is continuing each Friday.

Despite being one of the CBS network’s most popular shows for over a decade, there has never been a successful attempt to spin off the show away from the Reagans.

Actress Abigail Hawk, who portrays Frank’s loyal aid Detective Abigail Baker in the series, recently spoke exclusively to Screen Time about the show’s possible future.

“I think it’s possible,” she said when probed about a potential offshoot.

“The human mind, as far as creativity goes, knows no bounds. That’s what makes our industry so interesting, we’re boundless when it comes to what we can think of.

“There are definitely some specific characters we could easily see more of.

“I think it’s also possible to take the idea of perhaps following another family somewhere else.”

Abigail Hawk shares her ideas for a Blue Bloods spin-off

However, she maintained there was also one key thing that any Blue Bloods spin-off should avoid doing.

“I do not think, if you do that, it could happen in New York,” Hawk explained. “I think that’s impossible because the potential overlaps with the Reagans would be very obvious.

“As far as we know, why wouldn’t Frank continue as Commissioner? We’ve seen him almost retire I don’t know how many times now? He’s just a glutton for punishment, I guess.

“But I think a spin-off is definitely possible and it would be interesting to see what they did. Whether they set it in a different time period like how Yellowstone creators have done.

“It would be fascinating to see early NYPD and that history.” She then admitted, “[But] I almost want to leave it alone. It’s so beloved. Unless you significantly change what the spin-off is I don’t know if the fans are going to be on board to see something like that.

“It’s almost a betrayal. This family is family. So I don’t know.”

When asked if a prequel could centre around a young Frank Regan, Hawk admitted: “I have not even considered that. Who would even step into that mustache?

Who has the chops to step into the shoes of a young Tom Selleck?

Hawk took some time to think about it before coming back to the conundrum of who could step into Tom Selleck’s legendary shoes.

“I almost wonder if it would have to be someone completely new,” she said. “He’s just so specific. There’s a little bit of wild ruggedness there but also some vulnerability.

“It’s really tough. Tom Hardy comes to mind. He’s got it, he’s a very sensitive dude and he’s unafraid of owning that which I think is super cool.

“That vibe, because I loved him in Venom, I thought he was fabulous. He’s so adorably broken.”

Hardy is no longer busy with the Marvel supervillain franchise now Venom: The Last Dance is on the big screen.

However, he may not want to commit to a long-running episodic network show and currently has the upcoming action-thriller Havoc in the pipeline.

That being said, CBS will have to look far and wide if they want to cast a suitable younger actor with Selleck’s gravitas, acting ability and ‘tache.
