UK snow latest: New maps show exact moment brutal -5C Arctic blast surrounds Britain

by · The Mirror

New weather maps showing parts of the UK hitting -5C later this month, have been revealed.

One map, for Thursday, November 21, shows the whole of the UK covered in icy blues and whites. It reveals London and the south east at around zero, with places further north hitting lows of minus 1C, and heading to Scotland and the Highlands at a chilly -5C.

A second map which indicates the amount of snow set to fall on Friday, November 22, has heavier downpours in purple, the stronger the colour shows indicates the more snow that is due. Scotland appears to be ready to receive 2cm an hour that day.

The rest of the UK was forecast to receive less snowfall, however. North Wales could see up to 1cm an hour, but most of the snow would fall over the North Sea.

Meanwhile, the weather experts at WXCharts have suggested that temperatures could plummet by the end of the month, ushering in snow and freezing -2C temperatures in some parts of the UK.

According to the Met Office, it is too early to know if it will snow in December. The Met Office's Andrea Bishop said: “There is no indication of widespread snow at this time and snow is not something that can be forecast at such a long timeframe.

“Because of the UK’s location, where the air comes from is incredibly important when it comes to determining if snow is possible. Being surrounded by water also adds another factor into predicting snow chances in the UK.

"It may not feel like it if you dip your toe in, but the water in the seas around the UK is well above freezing and that affects the temperature of the air close to the surface which can determine how much snow is in the forecast.”

Elsewhere, the Met Office forecast a mainly dry and cloudy day for Friday, with patches of sunshine in the north and west of the UK. As the weekend draws in, some small bands of rain could head toward London, albeit with spells of sunny weather and light breezes.
