Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has revealed how her celebrity partner JB Gill and fellow pro Lauren Oakley have been supporting her following her break
by Mia O'Hare · The MirrorStrictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has revealed how she is being supported by celebrity partner JB Gill.
It comes after Amy has been forced to miss this weekend's competition following a heath scare last week. The Welsh dancer, 34, was taken to hospital on Saturday after "feeling unwell" after the competition's live show. Amy was taken to Barnet Hospital from the BBC One show’s production centre, Elstree Studios, as a "precaution".
This week it was revealed Amy would need to take a break from the show, meaning professional dancer Lauren Oakley is stepping into her shoes. Amy broke her silence following the medical scare as she made an appearance on Strictly spin-off show It Takes Two on Friday night.
She sat alongside JLS star JB and Lauren as she gave an update to fans. The professional dancer said: "I'm feeling so much better and I'd just like to thank everyone for all the love and support I've received and to my Strictly family." Amy also shared how supportive JB has been to her.
The TV revealed they have their own WhatsApp group to keep her in the loop with rehearsals. Amy told host Janette Manrara: "JB has been so supportive of me. He has knuckled down and the pair of them have been messaging all week saying ‘we just want to make you proud'."
Lauren added: "Yeah I set up a little WhatsApp group and we’ve been sending Amy videos." Amy shared: "I called it ‘team’ – I know you love the word Team – and I put a star next to it and they’ve been sending videos and messages and everything."
Amy's celebrity dance partner JB thanked the public for their support hours on from her health scare. On Instagram, JB wrote: "On behalf of both @amy_dowden and I, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone for voting for us and wishing us well. We absolutely loved our performance on Saturday night and are so grateful to be through to another week on @bbcstrictly Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support."
This year, Amy marked her return to the competition after having to take a break while undergoing treatment for breast cancer, including having a mastectomy and chemotherapy. Amy found a lump in her breast while on her honeymoon in the Maldives with fellow professional dancer Ben Jones. She was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and, following treatment, in February she announced that tests showed she has "no evidence of disease".
A spokesman for Amy said on Sunday: "Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution. She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected."
