Radio 1 star announces pregnancy live on air in surprise to co-stars

BBC Radio 1 star Katie Thistleton has announced that she is pregnant with her first child

BBC Radio 1 star, Kate Thistleton, has announced she's pregnant live on air.

Katie, 35, who co-hosts the drive-time show with Vick Hope and Jamie Laing, revealed the happy news live on air on Wednesday, 30 while hosting a quiz for her colleagues Mollie King and Matt Edmondson.

Teasing her reveal, she said: "I’ve got a question for you guys and that is, what is the last message that you were sent on WhatsApp? So if you could all open your WhatsApps, please."

As Matt and Molly looked at their phones, they suddenly started screaming with joy as Katie said: "I’ve just sent Matt and Mollie a scan photo and a message saying me and Alex are having a baby.I was so scared that that would go wrong, like the WiFi wouldn’t send it.”

Congratulating her pal on the "great news", The Saturdays star, Molly, who is pregnant with her second child, asked Katie how she was feeling. The mum-to-be replied: “I mean, oh my god Mollie I’ve wanted to talk to you about this so much. There was a day when you walked past us and I was like, ‘how are you’ and you were like, ‘I’ve been so sick’ and I was thinking, ‘me too I’m so sick but I can’t tell anyone yet’. But yeah, I’m due in March so not that far behind you really."

Following the live real on the radio, Katie, who joined Radio 1 in 2017, took to Instagram confirming the news, sharing a sweet video on of herself and her partner Alex with the caption: “We’ve been married three gorgeous years today. It feels like a good time to announce the next chapter. Watch for a surprise,” she wrote alongside some pregnancy and parenting related emojis,

In response, fans and fellow DJs flocked to the comments section to share their messages of congratulations. “OMG GUYS!!!!!!!! Crying, this is the best best best news ever congratulations,” wrote Natalie O’Leary. Meanwhile, Clara Amfo added: “Congratulations sweet thing!"
