Amanda Abbington's partner has praised her resilience in the wake of the BBC's investigation into her claims, likening her qualities to those of Princess Anne.

Sherlock star Amanda shared her joy after the BBC concluded its internal investigation into allegations she had made against Giovanni Pernice. The 50-year-old claimed that during her time on Strictly Come Dancing, she had been subjected to abuse from Pernice who was later sacked from his role on the BBC programme.

The recent investigation by the BBC found that six of the 17 claims put forward by Amanda had been upheld. The upheld allegations include complaints of verbal bullying as well as harassment. Giovanni was subsequently cleared of allegations of threatening and abusive behaviour. Throughout the investigation, the Italian dancer strongly denied the claims and stated the investigation would clear his name.

Just hours before Amanda sat down with BBC Newsnight's Victoria Derbyshire, her partner Jonathan Goodwin took to social media to share a snap of the couple alongside Her Royal Highness Anne, Princess Royal, who recently attended the 50th reception for the Spinal Injuries Association.

In view of his 59,700 followers on Instagram, Jonathan penned alongside the snap: "What an amazing woman. Never met anyone so determined to stand up for what's right. To advocate for the needy and to never cow-tow to the bullying media. The Princess Royal is also amazing."

Despite describing the past few months as one of the worst years of her life, Amanda insists she has "no regrets" about coming forward and making allegations against Giovanni. Speaking to Victoria, she said: "I've been through a lot - women go through a lot - but it has been a relentless time of my life. I have had to deal with horrible things that continue to happen for just complaining... not even complaining as I don't like that word. Just for reporting what I deemed and other people before me deemed as bad behaviour."

Reflecting on the BBC investigation, she said: "It's nice. It's a relief that they've apologised." She added that nearly half of her complaints were upheld but said there is a "significant reason" some complaints weren't upheld and her team will be investigating further.

Amanda told Victoria she is unable to share the significant reason at the moment but would like to at some point, adding: "What's been said at the moment out there is just not true. There were some very serious things that went on and they were upheld by the BBC. There were breaches of all the codes of conduct."

She added that the complaints which were upheld by the BBC were an "ongoing litany of being verbally abused" by Pernice, adding that he had a 35-minute "rant" at her which included name-calling.
