Sainsbury's put twist on Bourbon biscuits with new flavour – and shoppers are 'obsessed'

The new offering - part of the supermarket giant's Bourbon Twists range - sees the classic biscuit finally given a makeover just as custard creams have had in recent times

The humble custard cream has seen a variety of twists in recent times, with flavours ranging from strawberry to lemon, and orange to coconut gracing the shelves.

But now, it's time for the Bourbon biscuit to get a makeover, courtesy of Sainsbury's, who have launched their own unique take on the chocolatey classic. Taking to Instagram, New Foods UK (@newfoodsuk) unveiled Sainsbury's latest creation - the 'Bourbon Twists', which are packed with a Black Forest flavoured cream instead of the traditional chocolate filling.

"Wow, these are super strong in flavour, the cherry taste works so well with the chocolate biscuit!" exclaimed New Foods UK. These tasty treats come in 150g packets, retailing at just 65p, and they're suitable for vegetarians.

Shoppers are already raving about them, with one saying, "Oh these are really nice," praising their dunkability. Another chimed in: "I'm obsessed with these."

A third eagerly commented: "These are in my basket for my delivery next week!" Whist a fourth Instagram user admitted she can't wait for them to hit their local store, posting: "Waiting for these to come to my local branch."

And in a different tone, someone else mused over the potential of the new biscuits to reignite their love for Bourbons, stating: "This would actually get me enjoying Bourbons. I generally find them a very run of the mill biscuit."

Sainsbury's has also expanded its Bourbon range, with a new caramel Twists flavour, whilst the supermarket giant has also introduced new variations of its custard creams, offering gingerbread and peaches and cream flavours. These follow the successful launch of apple pie custard creams in late 2023.

Earlier this year, meanwhile, a study by Saga Holidays revealed the biscuits most likely to be found in a British tourist's suitcase. Almost 30% of Brits admitted they couldn't holiday without their favourite biscuits.

Bourbons and custard creams ranked eighth and fifth respectively in the list of favourites, which was topped by chocolate digestives, plain digestives and McVitie's Hobnobs. Other biscuits making the top 10 included rich tea, gingernuts, shortbread, jaffa cakes and Jammie Dodgers.
