Harry Kane went off injured during Bayern Munich's 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, giving manager Vincent Kompany a huge scare ahead of next week's Champions League clash against Aston Villa.

Kane has been a crucial part of Bayern Munich's season so far, scoring nine goals in all competitions - with two hat-tricks already.

He was by far Bayern's best player last season as he blitzed 44 goals in 45 games - though he suffered the heartbreak of missing out on silverware as the team were dumped out of the domestic cup and beaten to the title by Bayer Leverkusen.

Kane will be hungry to win honours in his second season but has suffered a setback four games into the season after limping off in the closing moments of their title clash with a foot injury.

Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl said he wasn't sure how bad Kane's injury was but admitted it "doesn't look good".

"When Harry leaves the field [that] means something because he's pretty tough," he said. "[It] doesn't look good, but we hope he's made strong out of good English wood and nothing's broken."

Manager Vincent Kompany was unable to clarify much further but said he was hoping his star striker could still be fit to line up against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

He was forced off during Bayern's 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen and is now a doubt for Wednesday's clash against Villa

"Hopefully not," the former Burnley boss replied after being asked if the injury was a serious one. "I'm not a doctor and it's much too early. I know something happened, but I hope he's ready for Wednesday."

Kane managed to stay full fit for the entirety of last season for Bayern but he does have a history of niggling ankle injuries with Tottenham.

Bayern went 1-0 down against their rivals as Robert Andrich put the away side ahead on 31 minutes, before Aleksandr Pavlovic netted the equaliser just eight minutes later with a amazing thunderbolt on the half volley from outside the box.

The teams could not be separated at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern retaining their two-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga with four games gone.
