Arsenal dealt another major injury blow as in-form star ruled out of international duty

Arsenal maintained their unbeaten start to the new Premier League season with a win over Southampton on Saturday, but the result has been marred by news of an injury to Kai Havertz

Arsenal have been rocked by the news that Kai Havertz will miss Germany's upcoming international features due to a knee problem.

The former Chelsea star, 25, has been in red-hot form for the Gunners this term after finishing last season with a flourish. And the versatile attacker was on the scoresheet again in Saturday's crucial 3-1 win over Southampton, meaning he now has four Premier League goals to his name already this term.

Havertz had been called up for Germany's matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Netherlands - but it's now been confirmed he has withdrawn from Julian Nagelsmann's squad.

Their official X account confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon with a statement which read: "Kai Havertz will miss the upcoming international matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands due to knee problems.

"National coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated Jonathan Burkardt in Havertz’s place. Get well soon, Kai! We look forward to seeing you, Jonathan!"

The news will come as a major blow to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who is already without the services of club captain Martin Odegaard after the Norway star suffered an ankle injury during last month's international break. It still remains to be seen when he will return.

While the extent of Havertz's issue is currently unknown, Arsenal have, at least, been boosted by the return of former Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, who started Saturday's match against the Saints.
