The late Queen Elizabeth went above and beyond for her family during her incredible reign. The entire Royal Family speaks of the former monarch in only the highest terms - including Prince Harry and Meghan, who are well-known to have had a somewhat strained relationship with some of the other senior royals in recent years.

While her reputation as head of state was known worldwide, and her popularity rankings with the British public were so high many politicians would likely have envied them, the late Queen was said to be, behind closed doors, just like many other grandmothers and great-grandmothers.

The late Queen Elizabeth had eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren - 12 of which were born in her lifetime. All her grandchildren paid tribute to her after her death, by taking part in a vigil around her coffin whilst she lay in state in Westminster Hall, and their deep affection and respect for her is clear every time they speak about her publicly.

In a documentary released to mark the late Queen's 90th birthday back in 2016, Kate opened up about the dynamic her young family shared with the monarch, and one particularly sweet gesture that she always made for them when they went to stay with her, which showed in Kate's view a glimpse of the deep bonds the Queen shared with the rest of the House of Windsor.

"She always leaves a little gift or something in [the children's] room when we go and stay and that just shows, I think, her love for her family," Kate explained.

She also revealed that George used a sweet nickname for the late Queen - Gan-Gan - and that the former monarch took a special interest in Princess Charlotte. "It's very special us having a new little girl to the family. Very lucky that George has got a little sister. The Queen, she was really thrilled that it was a little girl and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington [Palace] she was one of our first visitors here.

"I think she's very fond of Charlotte, always watching what she's up to. George is only two and a half and calls her 'gan-gan'," Kate said.

Both George and Charlotte attended the late Queen's state funeral in 2022, with Prince Louis staying at home - being only four years old at the time he likely was seen as too young to attend such a solemn, high-profile event that was so emotional for all the of the Royal Family.
