A teenager has died after a police chase led to a fatal car crash.

Three males - all of whom were in the car being pursued - were rushed to hospital after the crash outside Central Middlesex Hospital in Park Royal, west London just before 5.30am this morning. A 17-year-old boy died in hospital. Another boy is in intensive care, with the third also undergoing treatment for non-critical injuries. Another passenger was not seriously injured, according to police reports.

The incident led to travel chaos in the area, with several bus services being redirected as police make enquiries and closed the road pending their investigation. An independent probe into the circumstances around the chase has also been launched with the Independent Office for Police Conduct informed.

Video footage from the scene showed a large cordon - which witnesses said reached from the nearby Asda to the Central Middlesex Hospital. The clip also showed a fire engine parked beside the mangled wreck of a car. The man recording the video said he believed the car exploded.

Similar images showed a completely wrecked vehicle in the hospital entrance and a giant cordon surrounding it with a heavy emergency service presence. It is a red car and appears to have rolled over as there is significant damage on top of the car and is sitting on the pavement as police investigate.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.25am this morning (Monday 7 October) to reports of a road traffic collision in Acton Lane, NW10.

“We sent several resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, members of our Tactical Response Unit, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.

“The first of our crews arrived in three minutes. Our crews treated three patients at the scene, before taking them to a London major trauma centre by road as a priority.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson released a statement about the death of the boy and the crash. It said there was an independent enquiry starting into the circumstances of the crash, as well as one being launched by the Met.

The statement read: "At approximately 05:25hrs on Monday, 7 October a car that was being pursued by police was in collision in Park Royal Road, W3 outside Central Middlesex Hospital.
