Cate Blanchett is starring in Disclaimer, a gripping new series from Children of Men writer-director Alfonso Cuarón, and TV fans can watch it absolutely free. Available to stream here, the seven-part psychological thriller is based on Renée Knight’s bestselling novel of the same name and is packed with Oscar-winning talent.

As per the official synopsis, Disclaimer follows acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft (Blanchett), who has built her reputation revealing the misdeeds and transgressions of others. When she receives a novel from an unknown author, she is horrified to realise she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets.

As Catherine races to uncover the writer’s true identity, she is forced to confront her past before it destroys her life and her relationships with her husband Robert (Sacha Baron Cohen) and their son Nicholas (Kodi Smit-McPhee). The series is written and directed by five-time Oscar-winner Cuarón with a score by Oscar and Grammy-winner Finneas O’Connell.

Also starring are Oscar-winning actor Kevin Kline, Lesley Manville, Louis Partridge, Leila George and Hoyeon, with Game of Thrones’ Indira Varma as the narrator. Cuarón – whose credits include Roma and Harry Potter – is no stranger to the small screen, having co-created the 2014 fantasy drama Believe.

The Mexican filmmaker views Disclaimer as a story told in seven chapters, with the cast and crew approaching it as if creating a film. “I don’t know how to direct TV,” he told IndieWire. “Probably at this stage of my life, it’s too late to learn how to direct TV. We approached this whole thing as a film. There was never a conversation where we were doing something different.”
