Strictly's Pete Wicks is 'showboating' to win votes - and the judges should have noticed

Professional dancer Brendan Cole has hit out at Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks, claiming that he is 'showboating' with partner Jowita Przystał in a bid to gain votes

Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole has claimed that Pete Wicks is 'showboating' on the BBC competition.

Former Strictly professional Brendan, 48, has insisted that judges Anton du Beke, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel-Horwood 'should have picked up on' Pete's techniques. Former TOWIE star Pete, 36, is partnered up with professional Jowita Przystał and since the show first kicked off last month, viewers have been mesmerised by their on-screen chemistry.

However, Brendan feels as though the dance duo are purposely playing up the romantic angle in a bid to stay on the show and keep the interest of viewers.

The former Strictly Come Dancing professional insisted that when it comes to dancing, Pete is 'not that great'. However, he added that it's his charm, personality, and magnetic personality - as well as his connection with Jowita - which has drawn viewers in and kept them hooked.

Brendan, who is currently working with Sky Vegas, told The Mirror: “People are enjoying Pete Wicks' journey, but the dancing is not great. The Rumba was very romantic, and they're obviously playing on the romance side of things - they probably tried to kiss each other about 16 times in that Rumba. I'm surprised it wasn't picked up by the judges.

“Rumba doesn't necessarily have to [involve] kissing - it can be romantic and beautiful, but they're obviously wanting to do that. I really like what he does out there, what he says, the way he's playing it. I like the fact he's got tattoos everywhere and he's doing a nice ballroom [dance]. They’re not going anywhere anytime soon.”

It comes as Jowita, 30, recently addressed romance speculation surrounding her and celebrity dance partner Pete. The professional dancer acknowledged they share "very good chemistry together" before clarifying the nature of their relationship.

Pete and Jowita have been seen looking very close on the dance floor

Since being paired on the show, Jowita and Pete have displayed a strong bond on and off the dance floor, including her appearance on his podcast Staying Relevant and a reported 'cosy' encounter over drinks. Their connection sparked romance rumours, but Jowita set the record straight at the Daily Mirror's Pride of Britain Awards on Monday.

Speaking to OK! magazine on the red carpet, she said: "We have very good chemistry together as friends, we really get on well with each other, and we have so much fun together. And dancing is a bit like acting, so we're telling a story every night on Saturday night, and I think we're doing a pretty good job with that."

Jowita, while discussing the pairing, admitted: "But we're very good friends, and I love him so much as a brother, and I think we're going to stay friends for life, to be honest."
