Liam Gallagher has defended his Wembley Stadium performance - admitting it was marred by sound issues.

The singer, who was celebrating his 52nd birthday, drew huge cheers as he arrived on stage at Anthony Joshua’s boxing match against Daniel Dubois, but his short set was criticised as fans noted that he missed the first line of the song Supersonic.

"Three guitars on that stage, and couldn’t hear one," he said afterwards. He claims critics of his set were “soft” but adds that he “loves the haters”, adding that those criticising him “can’t handle the punk rock vibes.”

The gig was the Oasis frontman’s first set since the group announced their reunion, with Liam and his formerly estranged brother Noel set to perform at the venue seven times next year.

Nevertheless, he welcomed the “Wembley vibes” as he performed Oasis hits Rock ‘N’ Roll Star, Supersonic, and Cigarettes And Alcohol. The last time brothers Noel and Liam performed together was on August 22 2009 at V Festival in Staffordshire.

Noel quit Oasis six days later saying he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer” after a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in France.

Among the famous faces ringside were former heavyweight world boxing champion Tyson Fury, Irish boxer Conor McGregor, former boxer Ricky Hatton, Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Love Island presenter Maya Jama.

Love Islander Tommy Fury was booed by the crowd when he appeared on screen, following his split from Molly Mae Hague, who he shares a daughter Bambi with.

Liam came on to a massive cheer and said “Yes Wembley vibes in the air”, during his performance as the warm-up to the main event, in front of a record-breaking 96,000 crowd.
