Davina McCall reveals own 'struggle' as a parent on ITV's My Mum, Your Dad

My Mum, Your Dad presenter Davina McCall related to parents on the new series of the ITV show in a recent episode whilst talking about the 'loneliness' of children leaving the nest

Presenter Davina McCall spoke about the challenges of children growing up and leaving home on during Wednesday night's episode of My Mum, Your Dad.

In a heartfelt conversation with parents about their feelings of loneliness as their kids grow up, mother-of-three Davina became emotional. She confessed: "We're all struggling with that with kids [moving out] - it's really painful."

Davina is a parent to Holly, 23, Tilly, 21, and Chester, 18, whom she shares with her ex-husband Matthew Robertson. The former couple were married for 17 years before parting ways in 2017. Her youngest daughter, Tilly, is currently based in Australia, where some of Davina's family also live.

Davina has previously spoken about how emotional it was to see her leave. "I wept all the way back from the airport, obviously! But wept with pride, I think, pride and joy to see her skip off looking so happy and excited about this new chapter and where that might take her," she revealed on her podcast, as reported by OK! magazine.

The TV host went on to say: "My aim has always been to give my children wings, so they're confident enough to go and do whatever they want to do. Obviously the reality of that will be... quiet. I quite enjoy the chaos. But I'd much rather they went off confidently than clung on to my legs and never wanted to leave."

Tilly's times abroad comes as Davina's eldest, Holly, has also left home, spending the last four years at Newcastle University, some 300 miles away from their Kent residence. Davina posted on Instagram about Holly's graduation in July: "Just arrived back from a very emotional few days in Newcastle. Where my daughter Holly has been at the brilliant @newcastleuni for the past 4 years.”

Davina as hosted My Mum, Your Dad on ITV over the last few weeks. It's been described as the 'middle aged Love Island' and it has the tagline: "It's never too late to get butterflies". Having started her own romance with celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas in 2019, Davina was full of praise for him at the National Television Awards (NTAs) earlier this month, saying: "I love being on this journey with you. You make me a better person and you make me so happy. Thank you."
