Rebekah Vardy's legal team has accused Coleen Rooney of "deliberately deceiving" the court over the £1.8 million Wagatha Christie court costs.

Rebekah, 42, who is married to footballer Jamie Vardy, is now back in court in an ongoing battle over Coleen's legal fees. Rebekah was ordered to pay ninety per cent of Coleen's court costs after she lost the 2022 libel case. The wife of Wayne Rooney said she spent £1,833,906.89 to go head-to-head with Rebekah. But now, a judge has to make a decision over whether the amount is unreasonable.

Jamie Carpenter KC, who is representing Rebekah, claimed the astronomical cost includes a bill for one of Coleen's legal team to stay at the lavish Nobu Hotel. The bill, according to Rebekah's lawyer, included "substantial dinner and drinks charges as well as mini bar charges." Mr Carpenter added that Coleen's team used an unfair approach when adding up all the costs incurred during the trial.

Mr Carpenter accused Coleen of "deliberately deceiving" the court by underestimating costs and the time taken to working on the case. Rebekah's lawyer believclaimses she should not be ordered to pay £117,500 plus VAT for "expert fees", which was invoiced after the budget had reportedly been agreed in 2021.

The legal bill is said to be three times what Rebekah had budgeted for, after apparently preparing to pay £540,000. Allegations also include reported exaggerated hourly rates from London-based law firm Stewarts and Liverpool's Brabners. A source told The Sun over the weekend: "As far as Becky is concerned, they have been trying to pick her pockets because they think they can get away with it."

They added: "They underestimated their costs and are over-billing her. From the costs of experts to legal fees, the figures are ludicrous. They've taken a kitchen sink approach and are trying to get as much out of her as they can. Why on earth would her lawyer need to have dinner at somewhere so exuberant that cod costs £52 - and expect Becky to foot the bill? Becky won't stand for it. She will keep fighting in court until she feels there is a fair outcome."

Mr Carpenter claims that the costs should be reduced to £367,732. Hitting back at Mr Carpenter's claims, Robin Dunne, who is acting on behalf of Coleen said that it was "frankly outrageous" to claim they acted dishonestly. Senior Costs Judge Andrew Gordon-Saker said: "You can’t stand there throwing mud about them incurring costs if you’re not going to be upfront about your own. Even if you’ve decided you’re not going to seek to recover it, you’ve still incurred it." This comes after Rebekah took Coleen to court after she was accused of leaking stories to the media. But unfortunately, Rebekah lost the case in 2022, which first started in 2019.
