Jurgen Klopp made top target for first post-Liverpool job as he receives offer

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is Germany's number one target to replace Julian Nagelsmann if the former Bayern Munich coach leaves after the 2026 World Cup.

Klopp left Anfield this summer after nine incredible years that saw him win Liverpool's first Premier League title in 30 years, as well as the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and the Champions League.

With Arne Slot attempting to lead a new era at Liverpool, Klopp is now looking ahead to a new chapter - although he has previously admitted he could retire from management all together after revealing he needed a break from the game.

Klopp was linked with the England job this summer after the departure of Gareth Southgate this summer, but now the 57-year-old could receive a tempting offer from his home country to coach the national team.

Sporting director and iconic ex-striker Rudi Voller spoke about the likelihood of Klopp taking over in the future and said there would be "no way" they could overlook him should Nagelsmann depart following the next World Cup.

Voller said said Klopp would be the outstanding candidate if he wanted the job - with his future plans still a mystery.

"I don't even know what Jurgen would like to do again," he said, speaking to Aktuelle Sportstudio. "If Julian Nagelsmann were to decide at some point that he would rather coach a top club again - then of course there is no way around Jurgen Klopp. If he wants to."

Klopp has been enjoying some downtime since leaving Liverpool but recently took charge of a Dortmund legends team for the testimonials of Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski. He called it a "lifelong dream" to manage Dortmund again but insisted he loved all his three clubs including Mainz - equally.

It is not known whether Klopp would take another job after playing up the prospect of retirement when announcing the shock news he would be leaving Liverpool earlier this year - and said he would not work for at least one more year.

He said: "If you ask me, 'Will you ever work as a manager again?' I would say now no. But I don’t know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation.

"But all the rest, will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around. I will find something else maybe to do. But I will not manage a club or a country at least for a year, that’s not possible, I cannot do that and I don’t want to. That’s all."
