Apple’s iPads are some of the most premium and highly sought-after gadgets on the market, but they come with a hefty price tag. Prices for the latest iPad Pro start at £999, with previous models still costing quite a sum.

But there’s a way to bag a big discount on the Apple tablets thanks to an area of Amazon many people may not know exists. For this edition of our Top Tech series, we’ve found an enticing iPad deal that’s half the price of buying directly from Apple.

Amazon is offering customers a 32GB eighth generation iPad for £150, a saving of £149.99 compared to Apple’s usual asking price of £299.99. This particular deal is for the Space Grey WiFi model, but Amazon also stocks a range of models including WiFi + Cellular versions in colours including Gold and Silver, though prices can vary between products.

The deal comes via Amazon Renewed, a little-known section of the site that offers pre-owned, refurbished products for a fraction of the original price. Amazon Renewed gives shoppers a great option for picking up a premium gadget at an affordable price.

We understand that a refurbished model may put off some buyers, but Amazon states that this particular product is in ‘excellent’ condition and has been fully ‘inspected, tested and cleaned’. Amazon says: “The inspection and testing process typically include a full diagnostic test, replacement of any defective parts and a thorough cleaning process carried out by the qualified supplier or by Amazon.”

Amazon Renewed offers big savings on top tech including iPads and iPhones

According to Amazon, products in excellent condition have no scratches on the screen and no signs of cosmetic damage on the body are visible when holding the product 30cm away. It adds that the device is ‘fully functional’ with up to 80 percent of its original battery life and comes with original manufacturer or generic accessories and packaging.

Shoppers should note that these refurbished products don’t come directly from Amazon but are sold and dispatched from third parties, so it’s always worth checking customer reviews for each seller. For peace of mind, buyers have the option to return purchases for a full refund within 30 days of receipt.

The eighth generation iPad was released in 2020 and runs on Apple’s iOS 14, but is compatible with the latest version of the software, iOS 16. It features a 10.2” retina display, stereo speakers, an 8MP back camera and a 1.2MP FaceTime HD front camera.

Though released in 2020, the eighth generation is compatible with Apple's latest iOS software

It also boasts Apple’s A12 chip, which delivers speeds up to 40 percent faster than the previous, as well as Touch ID for security and Apple Pay. The latest model from Apple’s iPad range is now at its tenth generation – which launched in 2022 – with later versions coming in the iPad Air and iPad Pro ranges.

For those who are happy to pay a little extra for a newer model, Amazon also offers big savings on the 64GB ninth generation iPad for £209.99 or the 256GB fifth generation iPad Pro for £612. It’s not all iPads though, as there’s a whole host of smartphones, smart watches and earbuds also available through Amazon Renewed.

There’s the white 64GB iPhone 12 for £238.75, the Apple Watch Series 8 for £232 or the third generation AirPods for £103. But there’s also a range of Samsung gadgets too, like the Galaxy S22 at £249.99 for those who prefer Android devices. Aside from Amazon, we often highlight Sky Mobile’s tablet deals as ideal for those who prefer to spread the cost of a new iPad.

Sky offers Apple’s latest devices like the new iPad Air 11” and iPad Pro 11” for £17 and £27 respectively, offering customers a way to get their hands on the latest gadget without forking out a huge amount up front. Our Mirror shopping team also have a series 'Prime Finds' which is one to read if you're looking for more Amazon goodies.
