Melania's subdued election day look reveals sign she knows Donald Trump will lose
While Donald Trump is running for president, it's his wife Melania Trump who has people talking about their election day appearance as she looked less than impressed
by Zoe Delaney · The MirrorDonald Trump is the one running for president over in America today but his wife Melania Trump is pulling focus thanks to her glum appearance as she stepped out to vote.
The former First Lady was told she "looked like she was attending a funeral" as she cut a sombre figure next to her spouse in Florida, with social media commentators picking up on Melania's decision to don a black dress to cast her ballot at the Palm Beach polling station.
But it's not just cheeky Twitter (X) users picking up on Melania, 54, appearing less than thrilled to be stood next to her 78-year-old husband as he bids to return to the White House. Judi James, a body language expert, notes how the mum-of-one election day look is very different to her past style statements.
"By Melania's normal standards this is a very subdued, down-played look as she accompanies her rather low-energy-looking husband with his slumped shoulders and face partly-covered by a baseball cap to cast their votes," Judi write exclusively for the Mirror. "Her smile seems almost compensatory here as Trump's facial expression is rather solemn and he graciously and gallantly motions for her to walk in first."
She goes on to state: "Melania's FLOTUS looks tended to be high-vis numbers that became increasingly tailored, high-status power-suits towards the end of their term, so this casual shirt dress with her hair softly flowing to the side has no echoes of that previous stint. The Trump's mood here might have been self-described as 'confident' but that sentiment is not reflected in their body language in these photos."
Trump aims to return to the White House and be elected president once again, four years on from the 78 year old losing to current president Joe Biden in 2020. Donald Trump has expressed his "very confident" outlook on the election results as he cast his vote alongside his wife Melania in Florida.
The ex-president, donning a red baseball cap with 'make America great again' boldly displayed on the front, was accompanied by a smiling Melania at the Palm Beach polling station. Melania donned dark sunglasses and a black polka dress dress as she broke cover to vote for the next president.
Despite predictions of a tight race and a polarised electorate, Trump exuded his usual confidence, claiming the Republicans were ahead: "I feel very confident, we went in with a very big lead today, we Republicans have shown up in force so we will see how it turns out," he said. "I have been very honoured to find out the lines are long, the conservative lines, the Republican lines are very long."
With concerns over potential unrest from the losing side, given past violence from Trump supporters at the Capitol, Trump has stated he would be the "first" to accept a "fair" election result and does not expect any issues from his camp. Donald Trump has emphatically declared, "If it's a fair election, I'd be the first one to acknowledge," leaving ambiguous what he would consider 'fair'.
He also insisted that there is no need to urge his followers towards peace, saying "I don't have to tell them that. Of course there'll be no violence. My supporters are not violent people," Meanwhile, the former President expressed his appreciation with a visit to his campaign office, where Melania congratulated the team for their "hard work" and doing "a great job".
