An 11-year-old girl who was walking her dog near a golf club was assaulted and pushed to the ground by a man - who then fled the scene and remains at large, South Wales Police have said.

The girl was walking along a footpath between Cardiff Golf Club and Pentwyn Road, which passes by Glyn Rhosyn - a residential nursing home in Pontprennau - when she was approached by a man aged between 30 and 45.

He is believed to have engaged her in conversation before assaulting her and pushing her to the ground, and then running away. South Wales police say the man is described as being white with short brown hair, and are now appealing for help in their investigation as they work to track him down. The force want to hear from those in and around the area at the time and who may have seen a man running off along the lane.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "We are investigating an assault upon an 11-year-old girl which happened at around 5.30pm on Friday October 25 on the footpath between Cardiff Golf Club and Pentwyn Road which passes by Glyn Rhosyn, Pontprennau.

"The girl was walking her dog when she was approached by a white man described as being aged between 30 and 45 years-old with short brown hair. He engaged her in conversation before assaulting her and pushing her to the ground and running off.
