Nick Cannon shares update on Mariah Carey after tragic death of her mum and sister

Mariah Carey is leaning on her children following the tragic deaths of her mother and sister, according to her ex-husband Nick Cannon

Nick Cannon has shared that his former partner Mariah Carey is finding solace in the company of their children as she grieves the loss of her mother and sister.

The renowned singer, aged 55, recently announced the death of both her mother Patricia and sister Alison in one day. 'Masked Singer' host Nick said that Mariah, known for her chart-topping single Hero, is coping as best as she can while cherishing moments with Moroccan and Monroe, the former couple's 13-year-olds.

Speaking to Page Six of The New York Post, 43-year-old Nick remarked: "She's doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances." He also emphasized the importance of family support during such tough times: "But as a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love."

Nick observed that Mariah is enjoying an excellent period with the twins: "She's really having a great time with the kids." Stressing the importance of family unity, he commented on his children's role: "That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it's outstanding to see them supporting their mom the way they do."

Previously, the 'We Belong Together' artist shared her deep sorrow with People magazine over the loss of her mother at 87 and how her sister's passing on the same day compounded the agony, describing the coincidence as "tragic". Mariah confided in People: "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day. I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed." She further expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of love and called for privacy during the exceedingly challenging period: "I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time."

The late Alfred Roy Carey's former wife Patricia, once an opera singer and vocal coach, parted ways from him in 1973, and she then welcomed her first child. Meanwhile, her other daughter Alison faced a tumultuous life journey, dealing with issues including homelessness, and their relationship had been strained for years.

Sadly, before Alison passed away, she had been in hospice care, holding onto a hope to mend fences with Mariah. Alison's close pal David Baker relayed to DailyMail.com: "I know it was her dying wish if she could've at least had a conversation with Mariah ... ". Amidst this, Mariah herself has candidly talked about her complex bond with her mother, likening it to a "rainbow of emotions" in her memoir. In 'The Meaning of Mariah Carey', which hit the shelves in 2020.

She wrote: "Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's never been only black and white - it's been a whole rainbow of emotions. Our relationship is a prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment." She confessed, "A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother's."
