John Krasinski named sexiest man alive and reveals wife Emily Blunt's response

John Krasinski has been named on People's coveted Sexiest Man Alive list, beating the likes of music producer and songwriter Benny Blanco, Harry Styles and Robert Pattinson

John Krasinski has been named Sexiest Man Alive and his wife Emily Blunt has had a hilarious response.

The American producer and actor, who was given the coveted title of sexiest man, is known for playing Jim on NBC's version of The Office, on which he produced and occasionally directed, as well as starred in. The 45-year-old was "overjoyed" to tell his "very excited" wife Emily Blunt about his most recent achievement.

US based magazine People has featured its annual event since 1985, when Mel Gibson received the 'sexiest man' honour. Last year saw Patrick Dempsey named at the top, while other winners have included Idris Elba, Paul Rudd, John Legend and Chris Evans.

John admitted he thought that announcement that he'd won was a joke at first, saying that when he found out the news, he had "zero thoughts... other than maybe I'm being punked." The dad-of-two was named on the list alongside Selena Gomez's boyfriend Benny Blanco, as well as the New Girl lads - Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Damon Wayans Jr., Harry Styles and Robert Pattinson.

Speaking of his win, he told the outlet: "That’s not how I wake up, thinking, 'Is this the day that I’ll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?' And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me."

He revealed his wife of 14 years Emily joked that she would get the cover printed off as wallpaper. John said: "Do we have that on camera? Because that’s like a binding contract, I think. My children will love that, it won’t be weird at all.”

John also told The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where the news was first announced, that the first person he told outside of his family was Matt Damon.

He said: "The only person I slipped and told was, the day we did the shoot, I went to Matt Damon’s birthday party. When I walked in – yep, name drop, don’t worry about it – when I walked in, he was having such a good birthday, and I was late to the party. And he was like ‘Oh, man, why are you late? For what?’ and I was like, ‘People’s Sexiest!'"

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez shared her support for partner Benny Blanco, after he was featured on the list. The Grammy-nominated music producer and songwriter made it to the list, dividing social media users but delighting his girlfriend Selena, 32. Benny, 36, was photographed lying on a table with pizza in front of him - Selena shared one of the photos, captioning it: "Not only do you love me unconditionally, you always get me my Taco Bell Mexican pizza."
