Man Utd's Alejandro Garnacho sends farewell promise to Ruud van Nistelrooy
Ruud van Nistelrooy has left Manchester United after new manager Ruben Amorim informed the Dutchman that he wouldn't be part of his coaching staff at Old Trafford
by Nathan Ridley · The MirrorAlejandro Garnacho has made a promise to Ruud van Nistelrooy following his emotional departure from Manchester United.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, has left the club after new manager Ruben Amorim made the decision that he wouldn't be part of his coaching staff. The Portuguese wants to bring in six of his own coaches - including two assistants - from Sporting Lisbon, where he enjoyed a trophy-laden four-and-a-half-year reign.
Erik ten Hag, who was sacked by the Red Devils last month after managing to pick up just four wins from their opening 13 games, brought Van Nistelrooy back to Old Trafford in July. The Dutchman spent five years with United during his playing days, scoring 150 goals to make himself a hero.
But Van Nistelrooy has been forced to bid farewell again, prompting a number of players to pay tribute. Garnacho, who scored an excellent goal to wrap up Sunday's comfortable 3-0 win at home to Leicester City, posted on Instagram: "It was a short time but it was special.
"I learned a lot from you and I will keep it to myself for the rest of my career. But what I will remember the most is how you are as a person. We will meet again legend."
Van Nistelrooy certainly helped bring the feel-good factor back to Old Trafford, winning three and drawing one of his four games as caretaker. Amorim praised his work, saying: "A legend of the club. He did a great job."
It was no secret that Van Nistelrooy wanted to stay after revealing that his long-term goal is to manage United permanently. "I really enjoyed [being caretaker], it's been a short but amazing period," the 48-year-old told BBC Sport on Sunday.

"There are a lot of feelings there, the way the fans supported me and the team always in difficult moments it was a special moment. To close down this block of games with good results and a good connection I can't thank them enough."
United said when announcing his departure on Monday: "Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.
"Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed and we wish them all well for the future. We will confirm the full men's first-team coaching composition in due course."
