Kylian Mbappe's dispute with former club Paris Saint-Germain has escalated after the Real Madrid star hit out at "fake news".

Mbappe and PSG are in a dispute over £46million in unpaid wages and bonuses and the case is set to go to a hearing at the Ligue de Football Professionnel's (LFP) appeal committee on Tuesday.

Ahead of the hearing, Mbappe denied allegations that he was the suspect of an alleged rape which took place in Sweden. Mbappe visited Sweden last week and Aftonbladet reported that police were investigating a rape at the hotel where he stayed.

Another outlet, Expressen, alleged that Mbappe was the suspect and that prompted the France international to respond on social media. "FAKE NEWS!!!! It's becoming so predictable, just before the hearing as if by chance," he wrote.

Mbappe appeared to be referencing his legal battle with PSG and the club were not happy with his insinuations. A source close to the club told L'Equipe: "Honestly, it's a shame.

"PSG is responsible for everything with him. He didn't score any goals (apart from penalties) for Madrid? It's PSG. He missed the French national team matches even though he says he did, but he's not injured? It's PSG. PSG are now making up stories in Sweden. We will ignore it and keep our class."

The Swedish prosecutor's office has since confirmed they have received a report of rape, with a statement reading: "Due to media reports about a suspected rape in Stockholm, the prosecutor can confirm that a report of rape has been received by the police."

A statement from Mbappe's representatives added: "Today, a new slanderous rumour is starting to spread across the web from the Swedish media Aftonbladet. These accusations are completely false and irresponsible, and their propagation is unacceptable.

"In order to put an end to this methodical destruction of (the) image (of Kylian Mbappe), all necessary legal actions will be taken to re-establish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappe is suffering repeatedly."
