Police issue major update in search for Tunbridge Wells missing man Wayne Woodgate

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police recovered a body in East Sussex during the search for a missing man.

Wayne Woodgate, from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, was reported missing on October 17 after he was last seen entering a van in Goods Station Road. Kent Police said today that a body was found at a remote spot near Peasmarsh, East Sussex - 25 miles from Tunbridge Wells.

The service said officers recovered the body from a rural location in Peasmarsh on October 23, and Mr Woodgate’s family have been informed, although formal identification is yet to take place. Investigators who made appeals to locate the 54-year-old have now requested dashcam footage from motorists who may have recently travelled on the A268 between Peasmarsh and Four Oaks.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber of Kent Police said: "We are specifically requesting any dashcam for journeys made between 5.15pm and 5.45pm on Thursday 17 October, and between 8.15am and 8.45am on Sunday 20 October. Footage, as well as CCTV and doorbell camera images can be uploaded though the Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) using this online link."

Kent Police say a 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. A post mortem is yet to take place to establish the exact cause of death. Anyone who may have information that could assist officers relating to the case has been asked to call 01622 652006, quoting reference 46/179489/24.
