A 10-year-old girl has died after being bitten by her family's dog in a horror attack.

The youngster tragically died inside the family home in the Malton area of North Yorkshire on November 1 after the mauling left her with serious injuries. Police said that medical professionals and a member of the public attended the scene to help, while the dog was secured inside a car.

The animal was shut away in the car before emergency services arrived on scene, and was later seized by officers who transported it to secure kennels, where it remains, North Yorkshire Police said.
